To what greater height could an athlete aspire than to Olympic and Paralympic competition? To carry the hopes and expectations of a nation on one’s shoulders is both an honour, beyond the realm of the ordinary, and a weight, which only the most gifted from each generation can ever aspire to carry.
The three foundation sports of the FEI Family, Dressage, Eventing and Jumping and the more recent addition to our organisation, Para-Equestrian Dressage, hold a unique position in the modern Olympic & Paralympic Games as the only sports in which an athlete combines skills with an animal to create a partnership.
Each Olympics and Paralympics bring new achievements and the ever changing horizon of sporting enterprise, and we greet each new experience with anticipation and expectation. But the Games are not only about the here and now and what is to come. They are also about what has been achieved; what limitations have been exceeded, and what barriers broken; what records have been set and what heights of endeavour scaled.
We are really proud to be celebrating 100 years of Olympic equestrian sport at the London 2012 Games and pay tribute to the heroes both on and off the field of this past century in the pages of this microsite with summaries on the sport, the highlights, collections of photos and results since 1912.
